Intuitive Eating with PCOS- Module 4

This module explains the concept of intuitive eating (IE), which is a set of principles aimed at reconnecting individuals with their body’s natural ability to recognize hunger, fullness, and nutritional needs. It emphasizes that IE is not a weight loss method, and one’s natural body weight will vary based on their own needs. Initially, individuals may gravitate towards less nutritious foods after lifting restrictions, but the body typically balances out over time, craving a mix of nutrients, including fruits and vegetables.

IE highlights interoceptive awareness—the ability to sense internal body signals, such as hunger and fullness cues, which can be disrupted by dieting, stress, or insulin resistance (a common condition in PCOS). With insulin resistance, people may experience hunger even after eating, as their cells are not efficiently processing glucose.

The module outlines key strategies to restore intuitive eating, such as honoring hunger, exiting the restrict-binge cycle, and balancing metabolism through proper nutrition. It also introduces the three main pillars of IE: internal cue awareness, unconditional permission to eat, and eating for physical rather than emotional hunger. PCOS-specific challenges are acknowledged, focusing on balancing blood sugar levels to manage hunger cues effectively.
